Overview

AIT was founded in 2003 by Artistic Director, Jodi Porter who’s vision was to help grow the art of figure skating in the SF Bay Area by furthering the development of Ice Theatre or Theatre on Ice, a contemporary art form melding the technical and compositional elements of dance and ensemble figure skating. She has worked as a choreographer to develop this idea since 1997 with expertise in professional dance and figure skating.

Successful projects prior to 2003 include Founder / Director of Salt Lake City’s Children’s Ice Theatre 1997, Salt Lake City’s Contemporary Ice Theatre 1999, and Jodi Porter’s Urban Ice Project 2002. Performances included 1999 National Championships, SLC’s “First Night” 2000, Opening of the SLC Ice Center 2001, and the XIX Winter Olympic Skating Exhibition of Champions Opening. Moving to the Bay Area in 2002, Ms. Porter has continued her vision by developing a “dance” on ice Company with 8-10 ice dance artists. Modeled after a professional company as a 501c3, AIT strives to create annual performances in the Bay Area and foster on-going training for it’s performing artists and aspiring artists both in the studio and on the ice.

Performance highlights include: Downtown Ice at San Jose 2004-2007, Guests artists in SF Ice Shows 2005-2008, Sharks Hockey Games Intermissions 2004-2006, Bay Area Dance Week Closing 2004, Production of AIT’s “Sunset Tango” and “Latin Dance Explosion” at Shark’s Ice San Jose 2008, SF Union Square 2011 and in collaboration with Ice-Semble Chicago 2012 and 2013 Seasons. 2014 marks the Debut of AIT Chicago!

AIT continues to expand and make an impact on artistic skating nation-wide.  AIT Utah was launched in the fall of 2013 headed by Giselle Gorder and Rachel Petersen.  AIT is currently seeking strategic partnerships around the globe. Contact Founder, Jodi Porter for more details.
