Burning Orchid presents The Drama of Exile, an in-progress performance as part of the kaleidoscopic body of work Dance of Furies. Composed of a collective of performers, Dance of Furies works through queer rage and the rage of people of color in the service of transmutation through movement, costume, sculpture, poetry, sound, and ultimately healing. The ongoing work is informed by Butoh and Reiki and also includes workshops open to community at large.

Drama of Exile offers a glimpse into the work of the Furies and Burning Orchid that began last summer at ACRE residency in Stuben, Wisconsin and was developed at High Concept Labs in the fall during Burning Orchid’s time as sponsored artists. Drama of Exile sets a space and time for all those present to be taken on a journey of healing and transformation. Through the duration of the piece, performers will embody, evolve and evoke emotion, elements and archetypes painting a together painting a narrative that is both spectral and deeply human.

*HCL is located in Mana Contemporary Chicago; enter the building through the glass doors on the east side of the building. Ample and free parking is available. For wheelchair accessibility, please email info@highconceptlabs.org or call (312) 850-0555 to make arrangements.

BURNING ORCHID

An orchid so in bloom that it must burst into flames.
Fire, the creative force of the universe.

Burning Orchid, the meeting of the multidisciplinary practices of Rosé Hernandez and Efrén Arcoiris, exists as a third entity which moves towards a faceted crystalline form. Hernandez brings experience in performance, movement, and Butoh; while Arcoiris incorporates sculpture and installation. Both are graduates of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
