See Chicago Dance Celebrates the Year of Chicago Dance And the Chicago Dance Community with the 10th Annual Chicago Dance Month This June

See Chicago Dance, the dance industry's nonprofit service organization, is proud to announce that this June will see the return of its popular annual offering, Chicago Dance Month. Now in its tenth year, Chicago Dance Month provides a multitude of performance opportunities for artists and companies that are eager to get back in front of audiences.

Lauren Warnecke is Moving On

 

“My first ever professional review was of River North Dance Chicago’s performance at the Auditorium Theatre in April 2013,” Lauren Warnecke said in a recent email. “I remember staying up all night, terrified about Sid [Smith]’s noon deadline. I don’t know if he really wanted me to continue on after Dance Month was over, but I kept pitching and he kept saying yes.”

The Auditorium Theatre reopens with a full dance card for 2021-22

Dance is featured prominently in the Auditorium Theatre's upcoming season, which unofficially begins with American Ballet Theatre's "ABT Across America" tour stopping in MIllennium Park July 8. This fall, the theatre reopens its doors with a full slate of dance performances plus music and the popular National Geographic Live lecture series.

Giordano heads back to the Harris to kick off season 59, plus a new show called 'The Show'

Adding to the flurry of recent season announcements is Giordano Dance Chicago, who returns to the stage with a full docket of performances. The 2021-22 season, announced Wednesday, includes two mixed rep concerts at the Harris Theater on Oct. 22-23, 2021 and April 1-2, 2022. Additional engagements, with all programming yet to be determined, will take place at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts Feb. 5, 2022 and June 11, 2022 at the Auditorium Theatre.

Deeply Rooted Dance Theater's 25th anniversary season will include appearances in Millennium Park and at the Auditorium Theatre, plus outdoor performances throughout the summer and a new film project. Announced Monday, the ambitious line-up of programming combines digital approaches gained during the pandemic with a celebratory return to live audiences. 

Jumaane Taylor will direct the 30th edition of Rhythm World

The Chicago Human Rhythm Project announced Friday that Jumaane Taylor will serve as artistic director of its signature festival, Rhythm World. Taylor, a Chicago native, trained at the Sammy Dyer School of the Theatre and has a long-standing relationship with Rhythm World, now in its 30th year. The renowned festival—which runs July 26-Aug. 15 and will include lectures, master classes and performances by some of the world’s top hoofers—is the oldest event of its kind dedicated exclusively to American tap dance.

The Joffrey Ballet (finally) moves to the Lyric this fall with a Marston premiere, Don Q and stagings of their pandemic projects

Returning to live performances this fall, The Joffrey Ballet moves into its new home at the Lyric Opera House with a full season scheduled for 2021-22. Announced Wednesday, the ballet company’s programming essentially picks up where they left off after COVID-19 forced an abrupt end to the 2019-20 season—their final at the Auditorium Theatre.
